Salt Tablets for Hot days.

Golf Gear/Wear(English)

Summer golf in Japan can be tough.

We use quite a few different items to deal with the heat — cooling towels, ice packs, cold drinks, sun protection, and more.

Today, we want to introduce just one of them: Enbun Charge Tablets (塩分チャージタブレッツ).

They are small salt and mineral tablets that you can easily carry in your golf bag or pocket.

Summer Is Almost Over — But Be Careful

September can still sometimes be surprisingly hot in Japan.

And even when the temperature isn’t particularly high, you can still lose plenty of fluids during a long round of golf.

Of course, drinking enough water is the most important thing. But when we sweat a lot, we also lose salt and minerals.

That’s where these tablets come in.

What Are Enbun Charge Tablets?

Enbun Charge Tablets are made by Kabaya Foods, a Japanese confectionery company.

They are easy to find in Japan at supermarkets, convenience stores and drugstores. I usually buy a bag at a convenience store on the way to the course.

The blue package is easy to recognize once you know what you’re looking for.

The standard sports-drink flavor comes in an 81g bag containing approximately 26 individually wrapped tablets.

How Much Do They Cost?

As a rough guide, an 81g bag is currently around ¥200–¥300 (Approx. $2).

How Do We Take Them?

Kabaya explains that the amount needed can vary depending on how much you sweat and the conditions.

As a general reference, the company says that one tablet with about 100 ml of water provides a similar salt concentration to its stated guideline.

For us, the important point is simple: we take them with water during a hot round of golf.

They’re individually wrapped, easy to carry, and easy to keep in the golf bag.

So if you’re playing golf in Japan and stop at a convenience store on the way to the course, look for this blue bag marked 「塩分チャージ」.

For us, Enbun Charge Tablets are one of those small but useful items we like to keep in the golf bag.
