The moment we opened the Amazon package.
Yellow, orange, high-visibility colors — I’ve never really been interested. If I’m playing golf, I want a pure white ball.
Then my wife found a great deal during Amazon Prime Day and ordered a box of Bridgestone TOUR B XS balls for me.
There was just one small problem.
She forgot to check the color.

The story started with Amazon Prime Day.
TOUR B XS balls normally cost around ¥7,000 (about US$44) in Japan, but my wife spotted them for only ¥4,300 (about US$27).
At that price, the decision was easy. She quickly hit the order button before the deal disappeared.
In all the excitement about the price, however, one detail escaped her attention.
The color.
Before we get back to the color surprise, the TOUR B XS itself deserves some attention.
Bridgestone positions the XS as the TOUR B model for golfers looking for additional spin, a soft feel and more control around the green.
Its REACTIV technology is designed to help generate speed and distance on full shots while keeping the ball on the clubface longer on approach shots, producing more spin and control around the green.
The TOUR B X and TOUR B XS have slightly different personalities. The X puts more emphasis on distance, while the XS is the option for players who want more spin and a softer feel.
And, of course, choosing yellow instead of white doesn’t change any of that performance.
When the Amazon package arrived and we opened the box, there they were.
Yellow golf balls.
For someone who has always insisted on playing white balls, this was a first.
Apparently, the Prime Day price had been so attractive that nobody stopped to check which color had actually been ordered.
I wasn’t quite sure what to think at first. But once I put the yellow ball next to my usual white one, I had to admit that the difference was interesting.

Well… maybe it’s time to give yellow a chance.
So for my next round, I’m going to put these yellow TOUR B XS balls into play.
I’m especially curious to see whether the brighter color makes the ball easier to follow in the air and easier to find on the course.
After years of playing nothing but white, this will be something new.
Maybe my wife accidentally made the right choice.
